5 Signs You Will Make a Successful Personal Trainer

5 Signs You Will Make a Successful Personal Trainer

  1. You Have an Interest in how the Human Body Works

Having a passion for learning about anatomy, physiology and biomechanics are helpful for becoming a fitness professional. Many of the most successful trainers have a natural curiosity about the workings of the body and how exercise influences health and performance.

  1. You Demonstrate Empathy For Others

The connection and rapport between a client and trainer is the most important first step in any training relationship. Some of the most successful personal trainers draw upon their own difficulties with losing weight or achieving fitness goals as a way to connect with and motivate their clients.

  1. You’re an Early Bird or Night Owl

Most personal trainers see clients early in the morning and in the hours after 5 PM. There are a few exceptions to this, such as working with retired people, kids, stay-at-home moms or people with flexible work schedules. If you enjoy the idea of waking up early or working late, you might really enjoy personal training.

  1. You Enjoy Being a Role Model

Personal trainers wear many hats. They are leaders, educators, skilled communicators, and coaches. When a trainer leads by exemplifying these healthy choices, clients are more likely to follow the same behaviors, and trainers who make healthy choices themselves are better able to teach their clients strategies for successful behavior change as they draw on their own personal experiences.

  1. You Enjoy Science & Research

To help clients reach their goals, personal trainers have to understand science, physiology, and anatomy, stay on top of health and fitness research, be able to create effective programming for many different kinds of clients, and understand how to properly evaluate the clients they’re training. If you’re the kind of person who wants to keep learning and growing along with your clients, personal training might just be for you.
