NESTA Personal Fitness Trainer (PFT)
Every 4 years. Complete 4.0 CEUs (40 hours) during your certification period and pay the $149 recertification fee.
MMACA and ITCA coaches
Every 2 years. The MMA Conditioning Coach and ITCA Triathlon Coach certifications renew with 2.0 CEUs (20 hours) and a $75 recertification fee.
Specialty certificates
No renewal. Other NESTA specialty certificates, such as Fitness Nutrition Coach or Kettlebell Coach, are lifetime credentials.
How to renew your PFT, step by step
A CEU is counted in steps of 0.1. Each 0.1 CEU is roughly one hour of live workshop or distance learning, so 4.0 CEUs is about 40 hours.
- Check your expiration date. Your PFT is valid for 4 years. Look it up with our certificate verification tool.
- Gather your proof. NESTA and Spencer Institute certificates don't need to be uploaded. For other providers, have your certificate or letter of completion ready (PDF, JPG or PNG).
- Apply within 90 days of expiring. Complete the online renewal application, list your CEU courses and upload your proof.
- Pay the $149 fee. You're taken to our secure payment page. We accept major credit and debit cards and Affirm. Your application is processed once payment is complete.
- You're renewed. After approval, your certification is renewed for another 4 years from your previous expiration date.
- Work out what's left. Subtract the CEUs you have from the 4.0 (40 hours) required.
- Choose your courses. NESTA and Spencer Institute courses are pre-approved, and so are the approved providers below.
- Using another provider? Submit a CEU petition first. Approval is required before those CEUs count toward your renewal.
- Then renew. Once your CEUs are complete and approved, submit the online renewal application.
Renew on time and skip the late fee
Applications with completed CEUs and full payment are on time when they arrive from 90 days before your expiration date up to the expiration date itself.
