Coaching tips for….Coaches?

Heading into the new year, this is a great time to revisit your coaching skills and strategies. Whether you are new to the coaching/training world or have been in the game for years, it’s never a bad time to refresh and remind yourself what quality coaching and training looks like.

Here are 5 key coaching skills that you should remember to take into 2019:

Ask Good Questions

Great questions lead to great answers, and great answers lead to great conversations. As a trainer or coach, it is critical that you develop strong relationships with your clients. This will help you determine if your client is curious, has the capacity to perform and improve, and has a positive attitude.

Take a Positive Approach

You should always try to maintain a positive outlook on things, even in tough situations. A positive attitude toward situations will help both you and the person you’re coaching respond and react in a way that fosters quality, positive change.

Listen and Empower

As you become more familiar with each other, your clients will start to have input, questions, and feedback. It’s important for them to know you care enough to listen to what they have to say and encourage them to share their opinions.

Commit to Continuous Learning

Make a commitment to improving your own skills. If you’re not continuously learning, why should your clients? Lead by example!

Coach “in the Moment”

Learning is best when things are occurring in the moment. If a client comes to you with a question, use this opportunity to teach them something new.

That’s it for now!
